Introduction tour to the past, present and future of Amsterdam

On this 2-hour tour you will join a local architect or architectural historian to discover the reasons why Amsterdam looks the way it does.

We start in the old city centre and find out what the canals were for, why the houses are leaning into the street and which challenges Amsterdamers faced when building on swampy ground. Next is the vibrant Jordaan district, where the streets are narrow and there’s a surprise at every corner. Take a peek into some courtyards, the hidden gems of this neighborhood. Then we’ll continue to newly built areas along the waterfront, including an artificial peninsula with futuristic offices, hotel and public buildings. The tour ends close to the Central Station.

A unique guided tour, linking past and present.

How did the architecture of the canal area influence newer developments? How do these contemporary buildings break with or continue traditions and ways of living? Discover the forces that make Amsterdam one of the most vibrant cities in Europe!
